Donations will give Syrian Refugee children the right to dream of a brighter future
UAE, Dubai, XMay 2014: The highly successful education fundraisers that has been held from 25-31 May at Dubai’s MidriffCity Center has ended on a high note, after the UAE public turned up in large numbers anddonate and educate their children about the plight of Syrian refugee families & to also enjoy children’s activities at The Big Heart booth. The exciting range of activities created a lively family-friendly environment, with fun-filled program for all ages such as face painting, musical and theatrical performances and much more.
Patron of the Big Heart Campaign, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children summed up the event by saying: “Just as children graduate to a higher form of education, our campaign has ‘graduated’ to a new level of awareness by showing the public that education can put together the pieces of what war has broken: broken homes, broken dreams and broken communities. By joining hands at this fundraising event, the people of the UAE have become a shining symbol of hope, proving that we can create heartwarming stories of generosity and courage.”
The campaign has graduated from its emergency relief phase to the Education phase, in which it will put Syrian children back into school after their education was violently disrupted by bombs and shelling. Over 4,000 schools have either been destroyed or converted into emergency shelters, according to the UNHCR and UNICEF.
The fundraisers will add to the $13 million raised by the campaign over the past year, which has touched hundreds of thousands of Syrian lives by providing emergency healthcare, warm clothing, blankets, shelter, food and other relief.
Every 15 seconds another Syrian becomes a refugee in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and other neighboring countries. As the conflict intensifies, the fundraising efforts will also intensify to keep pace with the number of victims.
Donors are urgently requested to send funds through ‘Salam Ya Seghar’, endorsed by HH Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi (Wife of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children).
