On World Refugee Day, Mariam Al Hammadi, Director of The Big Heart Foundation, has called on individuals and organizations around the world to make every day an occasion to exercise their empathy and generosity for innocent victims of forced displacement.
“Let’s collectively pledge to do good today, and not push the vital, life-saving act of goodness to the chance of tomorrow. Refugees and other displaced people need our support now. Time is irrelevant when its passage is comfortable – months pass in the blink of an eye. However, for those who suffer endlessly without food, shelter, healthcare, security, and other life’s basics, one day can feel like a painful lifetime”.
“It is heartening to, therefore see, schools, universities, corporates, startups, and other drivers of society organize discussions, debates, lectures, and symposium to keep the memory of our displaced human family alive, by highlighting their sufferings and collectively offering solutions for the financial, infrastructural and emotional challenges they face. This is how this cause will always be alive and present in our minds and hearts. This is how forgetfulness will not be the enemy of humanity, and time will not be an added burden on refugees and displaced people.”
