UAE, Sharjah, April, 2015: Under the direction of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohamed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children,Salam Ya Seghar campaign– For Palestinian Children, one of the Big Heart Foundation initiatives, and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the plastic surgery and post-operative care project in the Gaza Strip recently which aims to provide the necessary support for the Palestinians affected by the conflict.
The MoU was signed by Mariam Al-Hammadi, Director of SYS, and Dr Mathilde Berthelot, Program Manager for the OPT in MSF.Salam Ya Seghar campaign contributed with a support of USD 500.000 where MSF will be providing the necessary support for those who are suffering from burn and trauma especially children, and to guarantee the supply of medical equipment and consumable material necessary for the treatment, as well as the availability of qualified staff in the specific activities mentioned.
“This initiative is part of our commitment on supporting the Palestinian children, where we can help them to heal in their surrounding conditions. In collaboration with MSF, we aim to provide free medical services for the patients which include, operations of plastic surgeries, post-operative care, and necessary psychological care, where we will work hard to provide them with the important needs,” Mariam Al-Hammadi said.
She added, “The project will continue for one year starting from April 2015 to March 2016, and we hope during this period we have provided the support for the largest possible number of patients in Gaza Strip, and to help them to return back to their normal lives.”
MSFhas agreed with the health authority in Gaza to work with Shifa Hospital, Nasser Hospital, and the post-operative clinic to treat the patients and provide them with the necessary medical and psychological support.The agreement was due to the unavailability of plastic surgery field in Gaza Strip which is necessary for the treatment.
